It’s that time of the year - - school buses on the road, more bikes on the sidewalks and an increase in traffic overall.

Educators, students, families, and communities across the county are returning to school for the 2023-24 academic year. The prospect of new teachers, new experiences, and a new year of learning can feel overwhelming, but in many ways it’s also exciting. A new school year brings growth, knowledge and new connections. Our school calendars are often major drivers in what the next nine months will look like for our community. 

Jefferson County, like students and families, is embarking on a new year of learning with several big projects on the radar – the kick-off of our Together Jeffco initiative and an update to our Short-Term Rental regulations.

Together Jeffco 
Over the one to two years, Jefferson County will update multiple plans including our Comprehensive Master Plan, Community Wildfire Protection Plan, Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan’s Evacuation Annex, Transportation Master Plans and Land Use Code. The goal is to design land use, wildfire evacuation planning, and transportation policies that are aligned and provide a cohesive vision for the future and identify priorities for addressing growth, services, and land use regulation. Short-Term Rental Regulations
County staff are also in the process of completing an update to our Short-Term Rental Regulations. The update will help streamline the review process and reduce noncompliance. To ensure updated regulations meet the needs of the community, our Planning & Zoning staff have scheduled several community meetings on Aug. 16, Aug. 30 and Sept. 12. We believe all community members should have a voice throughout this process, so please join the discussions.
